Mindfulness coffee.

Coffee brings a smile, reading brings knowledge, knowledge brings power, power has the chance to bring positive change, and positive change brings a smile! What a cycle

Welcome to Mindfulness Coffee…

My name is Tom Robb and I’d like to share with you a little about what we do and the company that makes it all possible.

It all starts with a journey around Australia in a ‘74’ Kombi van called Lucinda. With a delicious cup of hand pressed (pay what you want) coffee, a moment to connect with others, read educational and inspirational books.

We aim to help guide people in their journey to be the best person that they can be.

With my background in outdoor education, yoga and public speaking, a love for teaching and a passion for helping others, Mindfulness Coffee was born.

At the age of 25 I read a book called the Ancient Wisdom for Modern Health by an Australian author called Mark Bunn. This book compares ancient culture to Western society. Mark covers such topics as diet, looking into meal sizes, nutritional value and eating times, lifestyle choices, exercise, sleeping patterns, and so much more…

Did you know that it’s actually healthy to have an afternoon siesta! I KNOW RIGHT!? SOOOOO GOOD!

This book has become the foundation for how we live our lives today. It became the go-to present for our friends and family, and most importantly, it inspired a thirst for knowledge motivating us to read many more books of a similar genre. To name a few… The Saint, The Surfer and The CEO by Robin Sharma, The 5 Love Languages by Gary Chapman, As a Man Thinketh by James Allen, Let My People Go Surfing by Yvon Chouinard, The Power Of Now by Eckhart Tolle, The Celestine Prophecy by James Redfield, The Universe Has Your Back by Gabrielle Bernstein, The Brain That Changes Itself by Norman Doidge and really, we could be here all day but I’ll leave you with that for a kick off.

Although I just may be the most optimistic guy I know of, there is one thing that really puts a bee in my bonnet. THE SYSTEM, MAN!

For we are a disconnected global society. Our world is driven by greed, the population is run by fear and our natural environment is being ripped out from under us. Our products are built to break, we’re fined unreasonable amounts of money for making an honest mistake and, to top it all off, the little black box in our living room consistently reminds us of our flaws.

How unfashionable we are, how old we look, how our diet is no good, how our house is contaminated and although it isn’t… we should go and buy this new spray and wipe just to be safe. If you’re not keeping up with the Jones’s then you’ll lose the rat race! (PS only a rat can lose a rat race) The reality is, if everyone was happy just the way they were it wouldn’t be very good for business.

Fortunately, there’s people like you and me out there striving to make it all better. GO US! If there’s one thing that does make us happy, it’s positive change and let’s be real…. COFFEE! AM I RIGHT?!

The question for us was, how do we share the knowledge gained in these incredible books to the greater population in a non-confronting manner? Because let’s face it, no-one wants to hear about it when its shoved in their face… So get off my porch gas salesman! If I want cheaper gas then I’ll head to the google machine when I’m good and ready!

The only reason people are excited about bedtime is because not long after, it’s coffee time! It’s what gets us out of bed. It tastes great, makes us feels good and brings people together. Be it collectively or individually, we drink and enjoy coffee…. And if you don’t, that’s ok. Drop by for a chat, pick up a book or both.

So, there’s the answer. Add a bright red Kombi van, 35 self-development books, a smile and.. BOOM! You’ve got yourself a brilliant way to start the day!

The tricky part was space and cost. Kombi vans are smaller than you think, so to add a coffee machine and generator was out of the question. This brings us to the most exciting part of the story…

How we made coffee better than your local café…. Without power!

Everyone meet Greg from Espresso Unplugged. Just like you, this guy is a legend, and the trip would most likely still be a dream if it hadn’t been for him. These guys import and supply, people powered coffee makers, steamers and grinders.

That’s right folks, no power needed. The ethos is simple. Make the biggest, most tastiest, best coffee EVER, all while keeping the carbon foot print smaller than an ants shoe :) Hey Patagonia can we get a hell yeah?! (and that’s right, literature person! Did you see my triple superlative back there…?)

Greg owns a sustainable farm 40 minutes out of Byron Bay so when we called him in April last year with the idea he was right on board. Although Espresso Unplugged have a plethora of quality coffee paraphernalia, we cruised out with The Rok Grinder, The Rok Espresso Maker and the Bellman Steamer. This was Greg’s recommendation for commercial use they’re the BOMB!

These three little beauties allow us to mindfully make coffee for people

ANYWHERE IN AUSTRALIA. No power, no worries. AM I RIGHT?!!!

To put it simply, the Espresso Unplugged equipment is outstanding on all levels. If you’ve ever found yourself saying something like “Ahh man, I wish they just made things like they used to,” then say no more! Everything at Espresso Unplugged is built to last, well designed and if you’re making a coffee on top of the Eiffel Tower and happen to drop your ROK, don’t worry, it can be easily fixed. As well as all this, Greg, who imports this stuff, is a real nice guy but don’t tell him we said that…

Be it van packing, backpacking, glamping, overnight bush walks, fishing trips or even commercial use, Greg’s got you covered. We dig Greg and his ethos like a bob cat and appreciate how he has gone above and beyond to help us bring our vision to life. He has offered everything from business advice, coffee advice and, because we don’t like reading instructions, we even got an over the phone “how to work EVERYTHING” tutorial. Heck, we even got Chrissy presents!

So there you have it. Thanks for sticking round and we’ll catch you on the road somewhere. Follow the journey on Instagram @lifeis_theway and check out our website https://www.lifeistheway.com.au/
